About OpenWhispr
OpenWhispr is a dictation app: press a global hotkey, speak, and the text is pasted at the cursor in whatever app you are using. Speech can be transcribed on your Mac with local models such as Whisper and NVIDIA Parakeet, so audio never leaves the machine, or sent to cloud providers for speed. Extra hotkeys translate what you say into another language or send it as a command to an AI assistant backed by hosted or local models.
It also records and transcribes Zoom, Teams and FaceTime calls with speaker labels, imports audio and video files for transcription, and keeps searchable notes. Local dictation is free and unlimited without an account; the optional OpenWhispr Cloud service has a free weekly allowance and paid Pro and Business plans for more cloud transcription, meeting hours and team features.
DMGs are published for Apple silicon and Intel. On Intel Macs, live speaker identification and voice fingerprinting are unavailable and notes search falls back to keyword matching.
