About Ambient

Ambient shows the state of AI coding agents on your Mac. A notch or top-of-screen overlay turns a color while Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and other supported agents work, need a decision, finish or hit an error. A click returns you to the exact terminal tab, tmux pane, chat or editor window. It also offers notifications, a menu-bar status list and an optional desktop pet. It is for developers who run several agents and do not want to watch each terminal.

It needs macOS 14 or later and is a universal build. The disk image is signed and notarized. Ambient connects each agent by adding its own hook entries to that agent's settings file, keeps your other settings, and writes a backup first. Codex asks you to approve the new hooks with /hooks. The app states that it has no accounts and no telemetry; it goes online only for an optional one-time offline voice download and for text you choose to send to an online voice.
