Actual Budget

Actual is a budgeting app built around envelope budgeting: every dollar of income is assigned to a category, and you track spending against those amounts month by month. It handles multiple accounts, imported bank files, scheduled transactions, rules that categorize transactions automatically, and reports on spending and net worth.

The desktop app keeps your budget on your Mac and works on its own. Syncing between devices or using it from a browser needs the separate Actual sync server, which you can host yourself or rent from third-party hosts such as PikaPods. The project is community-run, and the Mac download comes in Apple silicon and Intel builds.
