About SpeakType
SpeakType is dictation for the whole Mac. You hold a shortcut (fn by default on a Mac, changeable in Settings), speak, and release, and the words appear where the cursor is. Transcription happens on your computer with a speech model that you download once, between about 75 MB and 1.6 GB. Parakeet models cover English and 24 other European languages, and Whisper models cover up to 99. Recordings and history stay on the Mac, and no account is needed.
The universal DMG runs on macOS 13 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. Parakeet models are not offered on Intel Macs. SpeakType asks for microphone and accessibility access on first launch, so it can hear you and type for you. The app is notarized. The README describes SpeakType 2 as new, with the older 1.x Mac app still downloadable for anyone who prefers it.
