Free, open-source alternatives to Aseprite

Aseprite is a pixel art editor for drawing sprites and animating them frame by frame, with layers, palettes, onion skinning and sprite-sheet export. The open-source apps below do the same pixel art and sprite animation job.

LibreSprite is a community fork of an earlier, open-source version of Aseprite, so its workflow will feel familiar. Pixelorama is built independently and adds tile-focused tools alongside layers, frames and palettes.
