About Arras
Arras places photos on the desktop as widgets, linked slideshows and editable collages. Each photo keeps its natural proportions and can sit behind the icons, on the desktop, above other widgets or float. Slideshows can use local photos, a Finder folder or a Photos album. You can save named desktop setups, undo arrangement changes and export a .arras backup. It suits people who want a personal desktop look without a separate wallpaper tool.
It requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and runs as a universal app on Apple silicon and Intel. The 2.5.1 direct download is Developer ID signed and notarized, and it is free under the MIT licence with no account. A paid Mac App Store edition, a one-time US$4.99 purchase per the README, keeps a separate library. The direct edition sends limited usage and weekly configuration statistics; the README says photos, file names, paths and layouts are excluded. Capture exclusion is only a request to macOS, so hide sensitive widgets by hand before recording.
