Open-source alternatives to Fender Studio Pro

Fender Studio Pro, the workstation previously sold as Studio One Pro, is used to record instruments and vocals, program beats and parts, mix tracks and master the result. The open-source workstations below share that recording and production job on a Mac.

Ardour covers the recording side in depth, with multitrack tracking, non-destructive editing, MIDI, mixing and third-party plug-in support. Stargate bundles its own instruments, effects, pattern-based sequencer and wave editor into one app, trading plug-in hosting for a self-contained setup that runs well on modest hardware.
