Free, open-source alternatives to Screen Studio

Screen Studio records the screen and automatically turns the capture into a polished demo, zooming in where you click, smoothing the cursor and framing the video on a background. The open-source apps below follow the same approach.

OpenScreen, Recordly, Reframed and Screenize all generate cursor-following zooms that you can adjust before export, and Cap adds zooms and backgrounds to its recordings as well. They differ in camera overlays, captions, iOS device capture and how much manual control the editor offers.
